The Work of Open Doors
Here is an overview of our work in areas where the Body of Christ suffers from persecution.
Taking the Word
Many Christians living in restricted and unstable areas of the world have never owned their personal copy of the Bible. We believe in the life-changing character of the Word of God and seek to meet this need.
Sharing the Word
Related to the shortage of Bibles is the lack of biblical teaching and principles. We believe in leadership training from Christ-centered study material to equip leaders and provide biblical solutions to everyday needs.
Partnership in Prayer and Ministry
We are dependent on prayer support for our ministry as well as asking for prayer for the Suffering Church. Please contact us for information on the Open Doors Prayer Ministry and how we can serve your church.
We Set Limits
The determining factor for Open Doors involvement anywhere in the world is the presence of a Suffering Church. We stand alongside when the Body of Christ has run into problems because of its own identity. To quote Brother Andrew, "We have voluntarily limited ourselves to the needs of the Suffering Church." We go where others do not go, and do what others do not do. Ours is not a competitive vision. We want to concentrate our limited resources on the most needy parts of the world.
We Serve Worldwide
Wherever Christians suffer for their faith, we stand beside them, in prayer and provision of Bible-based materials.
The Far East
Open Doors delivers Bibles to China on every day of the year. Many of China's 60 million-plus believers still do not own a personal Bible. It is illegal to teach Christ to anyone under 18 years old, so a Children's Bible is a special priority. Leadership training is given to thousands of pastors, evangelists and lay leaders of the Chinese House Church movement. In Vietnam we respond to an acute shortage of Bibles. Many leaders attend special training sessions. Emphasis is given also to reaching tribal people with scriptures and teaching.
The Muslim World
Islamic revival is spreading; the Church in Muslim countries is declining. Open Doors campaigns for Christian prisoners; in Pakistan we teach uneducated believers to read by learning Bible stories; in the Middle East we support Sunday Schools and Bible Correspondence courses; we deliver Bibles - often secretly - throughout the Muslim world.
Latin America
"...The Kingdom of God suffers violence" (Matthew 11:12a) In the conflict zones here, Open Doors is active in Peru, Mexico, Colombia, and Cuba, providing Bibles audio and visual tools, Scripture printing equipment, and practical restoration for widows and orphans.
Former Soviet Union
Bibles, New Testaments, and Christian study books are supplied to the Caucasus, Central Asia, and mid-Volga regions.
Africa
In southern and sub-Saharan Africa, pastors are provided with Bible teaching and study materials; Bibles are delivered to countries like Ethiopia and the Sudan; minority believers are supported where Islam is encroaching, such as in Nigeria and Tanzania
